The ride

You will soon learn that Mongolia is a beautiful country with the kindest people. We ride about 90% off-road on this itinerary - from big city Ulaanbaatar to the remotest regions. You can see the rare bactrian camel on the way to the mini Gobi desert where you play in deep sand. Then we are off through the ancient steppes and up to the turquoise waters of Lake Khovsgol.

Day 1

Arrival in Ulaanbaatar. We will pick you up from the airport and take you to the hotel to get refreshed. There will be a safety briefing and dinner with the crew.

Day 2 - 175mi

UB to Bayam Govi in Övökhangai. Today is a long day of pavement and a little bit of sand. Around 75% on-road just to get out of the city into the most incredible wild lands you’ll ever see. Retiring in a Ger camp.

Day 3 - 105mi

In the morning we go play in sand dunes. That’s why we are here, the baby Gobi. Afterward, you have an opportunity to ride the infamous Bacitran camels across the way. Lunch in at the ancient capital of Mongolia - Karakorum. We end the day at Orkhon Waterfalls.

Day 4 - 105mi

From our waterfalls, we head to “Blue” Hot Springs. It’s a short day but promises loads of excitement. Your highlight just may be the home-cooked meal prepared by the team. Get warm in the hot springs and relax those achy muscles. We will stop in a nomadic home for a little magical dose of local culture.

Day 5 - 96mi

Sadly, we leave the hot springs but head to the beautiful White Lake. This is one of the rare predominantly pavement sections. We are going fast to get to this serene lake. If we get there early enough make sure to hike the volcano nearby. Its not that high but very steep.

Day 6 - 185mi

Incredible cairns dot the shores of White Lake setting a peaceful tone for this section. From here we head north toward Khuvsgul Lake. This is a wildlife-rich region with the Khoridol Saridag Mountains being home to 60 species of mammals. This is the region the famous reindeer riders are from.

Day 7 - 155mi

Another 100% offroad day. Today we will be riding around the mountains in search of nomadic families. You will get a sense of the vast openness of the steppes. Mongolia is a wild and free place.

Day 8 - 150mi

Wake up early to rip around a bit before flying back to UB. We ride around the countryside and then after lunch catch a flight back to the capital city, leaving our bikes behind.

Day 9 - Back home….?

Say goodbye to your ADV crew. Of course you can stay longer in Mongolia and explore on your own from here. Don’t forget to let us know if you are coming early or staying later so we can make arrangements for you!
